Samaria Gorge, Crete
The Samaria Gorge is a striking route which can be travelled by foot in Crete, running parallel to a river which flows through dense areas of rugged forest. The trail is demanding in some areas, but for the most part it is easy going.
Tired travellers wanting to refresh themselves can take a dip in the stunning crystal clear waters of the AyiaRoumeli. The gorge, a natural fortress, has a complex and fascinating history which dates back to prehistoric settlements; evidence of which can be seen at various points on the route. A shrine to Apollo marks one area of the gorge, which was also the birthplace of the Cretan goddess Britomartis.
Skiathos

At 7km this hike requires more time and motivation, but the historic monuments you will pass along the route are a sight to behold.
