Cable Beach, WA
If you want endless white sand, crystal clear water and the holiday of a lifetime, then you can’t miss Cable Beach just south of Broome. With red ochre cliffs, a history steeped in the Pearling industry and breathtaking sunsets, Cable Beach is one of a kind. Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park, NT
If you haven’t visited Uluru yet, it is about time you put the pedal to the metal and made the trip. Watch the sunset over Uluru, visit the cultural centre, walk around the base of Uluru, take a tour of the Kantju Gorge or the Mutitjulu Waterhole, hop on a camel tour or listen to bush yarns. Uluru is steeped in Aboriginal culture and is the one must-see destination in Australia.
Cooper Pedy, SA
Head north from Adelaide along the Stuart Highway for a day and you will come across Cooper Pedy, the gem capital of Australia. Well known for mining opals, Cooper Pedy is also known for its blistering hot summers, its underground housing and its anything goes attitude to life. Check out the underground cafes, churches and even a bookstore, mine for opals, visit historic mines and take an outback tour.
Great Ocean Road, VIC
Not so much a destination as a journey, the Great Ocean Road starts at Torquay in Victoria and goes on for 243km to Allansford. This is one of the best trips in Australia, travelling past Bells Beach, the Twelve Apostles, and superb beaches and charming fishing villages. The scenery is truly spectacular and well worth the short trip. So, why not pick up a cheap campervan rental in Cairns or in cities near National Parks and head off on a perfect day trip for the family?
