Whether you are taking a leisure trip, or traveling on business, you want to make sure that the experience is as stress free as possible. This is not as likely to happen if you pack as though you are traveling for a month, when you are only going to be away for the weekend. The truth is that one of the biggest trends in travel, right now, is minimalist travel. This is about throwing off all the excess of many regular trips and streamlining – just ask any corporate travel agent.
Even if you do not want to embrace the entire minimalist approach, it makes sense to travel as light as you can. Having only carryon baggage for a weekend away makes flying a lot easier. We have but together our top tips on how to pack carry on for your weekend trip overseas.
Wear Your Bulkiest Clothing
If you are taking any clothing that will use up a lot of room in your bag, it makes sense to wear it. As long as you wear a t-shirt underneath, the items you wear should keep fresh on the journey. You can always take a couple of layers off on the flight, but planes can be freezing, so you may be glad of the extra warmth.
Pack Clothing That You Can Swap Around
You are only going to be away for a few days, so you do not need a lot of different outfits to wear. You can wear trousers or skirts for at least a couple of days. Just make sure that you take tops for the day and evening, so that you can swap around, and create different outfits.
Do Not Pack Anything That Shows the Dirt
The last thing you are going to want to do is spend time washing a white top that looks dirty the minute you take it out of your bag. You also do not want the expense of paying for a hotel’s laundry service. Do not waste room in bag by packing impractical clothing.
Leave the Hair Dryer At Home
If you are only away for the weekend, you may want to try out dry shampoo as an alternative to the hassle of washing your hair. Even if you decide that washing your hair is a necessity, most hotels provide hair dryers. If there is not one in the room, you normally just need to ask at reception.
Be Sensible With Shoes
It really is not necessary to have more than two pair of shoes with you when you are away for the weekend; and that includes the pair you wear to travel. If you really need to have a couple of different pairs packed away, opt for fancy flats rather than killer heels. They take up a lot less room and are usually lighter to carry.
Traveling should not be an endurance test. Pack too much, and it can start to feel as though it is. Put some, or all, of our tips into practice and you can make your weekend away a more enjoyable experience.
